Pediatric Dentistry Services

As a family-run dental practice, we are proud to offer a wide range of pediatric dental services to our upstate community. We gladly welcome patients of all ages. While Doctor Zack and Elizabeth Huggins are not pediatric dental specialists, they do have extensive knowledge and experience when it comes to treating little ones! At Huggins Dental, we are excited about the opportunity to introduce your child to the dental chair and begin their lifelong journey toward good dental health. It is recommended by the American Dental Association that you bring your child in for their first dental appointment by their first birthday. You can rest assured that our team offers compassionate care and will help your child feel comfortable every step of the way. We go the extra mile and ensure that all of our procedures and tools are explained to your child using non-threatening terms. As your trusted dentist in Greenville, SC, we look forward to getting to know your child’s dental needs and meeting them accordingly. Additionally, we can help you better understand how to care for your child’s teeth at every stage of development so that you are prepared and informed about their dental health every step of the way.

What To Expect

We understand that a child’s first dental appointment can be the source of some anxiety. Instead of focusing on the anxiety, we encourage parents to positively reinforce their child’s dental appointment at home. When you bring them to our office, we will ensure that they are fully informed of our processes and procedures in a way that makes them feel safe and informed. Dr. Elizabeth Huggins has treated children throughout her dental career and is passionate about teaching them good dental habits early in life. For our youngest patients, our goal is to get a head-start on monitoring their mouth development so that you can be forewarned about any future dental concerns before they arise. Additionally, we want to start teaching good oral hygiene skills early so that your child is on track for a lifetime of dental health. Some of our pediatric dentistry services include:

Dental Emergencies

We understand that a dental emergency can be especially traumatic for our younger patients, which is why our entire team provides compassionate care to keep them calm and safe. When your child experiences a dental emergency, it’s important you know who you can call for help. Our office will schedule your child for our earliest available appointment if they are experiencing a dental emergency to avoid further pain or discomfort.

Fillings, Sealants, & Crowns

If your child’s teeth are impacted by tooth decay, we can help restore them with our fillings and sealants. Our dental fillings restore the health and integrity of your child’s tooth, while our dental sealants preserve the natural structure of your child’s molars. Additionally, if your child’s tooth is damaged or chipped, we can restore it with a stainless steel dental crown to help protect a primary tooth. Primary teeth, or baby teeth, are especially important to your child’s dental health because they facilitate normal biting and chewing and enable a healthy diet.

Nitrous Oxide

If your child has any dental treatment needs, our doctors will likely recommend Nitrous Oxide to help your child relax in the dental chair. Nitrous is extremely safe and effective for helping your kiddo remain still in the chair while the dental work is being done. This allows for a quick, pain-free appointment and a happy child walking out the door. We are all about creating a great dental experience for your child, and nitrous helps us do that!

Dental Cleanings & Patient Education

To keep your child’s teeth, gums, and jaw healthy, we recommend scheduling regular preventative care appointments. Children tend to eat high-sugar diets, which can be tough on their teeth. At their preventative care dental cleanings, we remove any plaque or tartar on their teeth and reduce their risk of gum disease. Additionally, we take the time to introduce them to our office and educate them on their dental health so that they know what they can do at home to take care of their smiles.

Space Maintenance

As your child’s mouth develops, orthodontic issues may arise. Our office closely monitors the development of your child’s smile so that you can get a head start on planning for any future dental care they might need. Additionally, we make sure that their permanent teeth have the appropriate amount of space for the proper eruption to occur. Â
