Dental Implants in
Greenville, SC

If you are missing a tooth, we are here to help you. At Huggins Dental, we provide the most convenient and consistent care in the upstate, which includes offering dental implants as a restorative dentistry option. Dental implants are surgically implanted prosthetic teeth. Patients love dental implants because they are the closest restoration you can get to your natural tooth. Because dental implants involve a surgically implanted post that acts as your tooth roots, dental implants offer patients a variety of benefits that you will not find in other restorative options.

The ideal candidate for a dental implant is someone who is missing a tooth or multiple teeth but otherwise has a healthy smile. This means that your gums are healthy enough to undergo the implant procedure and your jawbone is strong enough to support an implanted tooth.

Another ideal candidate for implants is someone who has healthy gums and bone, but no longer has any teeth. Whether it is stabilizing a removable denture or fully supporting a fixed denture, implants are a fantastic way to improve your quality of life.

As your trusted dentist in Greenville, SC, we would be happy to evaluate your smile and determine if dental implants are an ideal option for you.

FAQ: Dental Implants

What is a dental implant composed of?

A completed dental implant is composed of three essential pieces: the post, the abutment, and the dental crown. The post is the first piece which is surgically implanted  underneath your soft tissue in order for it to fuse with your jawbone. Following the healing process for this procedure, an abutment is attached to the post and then covered with a customized dental crown.

Will people be able to notice my dental implant?

No, people will not be able to notice you have a dental implant unless you tell them. The dental implant is a discreet missing tooth restoration. This means that the dental crown we provide to top off your dental implant blends in seamlessly with your smile.

How long is the healing process for dental implants?

One of the most important steps in getting a dental implant is the healing process. When the post is surgically implanted, it will take several months to properly heal. Do not worry! You will not be experiencing pain while your post is healing. Rarely do patients have any discomfort outside of the first 1-2 weeks after placement of the post. It is best not to rush the healing process, as the fusion of the post into the jawbone is what gives you the functionality that you are seeking from a dental implant. In most cases the post is ready for the abutment and crown after 4-6 months.

How should I care for my dental implant?

As your implant site heals, do your best not to irritate the affected area with crunchy or sticky foods. However, once the implant site is fully healed and your dental crown is placed on top of it, you are free to utilize it just as you would your natural tooth. Dental implants require no additional care beyond brushing and flossing regularly. You are free to eat whatever you like!
